MALE VOCAL QUARTET “ACCORD”
The quartet was initiated in 1998 by the lovers of ensemble singing – students of Ternopil National Pedagogical University, who successfully combined their studies with singing creative work.
During the years of its existence the quartet has achieved recognition and won Ukrainian and international acclaim. In 2004 it gained the status of the Ternopil Regional Philharmonic Society professional group.
Quartet “Accord” adheres to formal manner of singing, basically “a cappella”. Stringency in the selection of repertoire and its rendering with the feel for the most subtle artistic intonations has become the creative motto of the group since the students’ years of its members.
The repertoire of the quartet comprises nearly 200 works: Ukrainian and other countries’ folk songs, classical pieces of music, religious songs and pieces of modern vocal music. Mostly these are highly aesthetic, free from rendition clichés, works, which have borne the test of time.
The quartet participated in International Students’ Festival in Belfort (France, 2000), festival “Lemkiwska Watra” in Gorzów Wielkopolski (Poland, 2005), toured Germany (2002), took part in “Days of Ukrainian Culture” in Poland (Rzeszów, 2005, Szczecin, 2011), became the laureate of International Festival-Competition “I am there where there is blessing” (1st prize, Ternopil, 2011) and II International Contest of Vocal Ensembles named after Dmitry Bortnianskyi (1st prize, Kyiv, 2011). This is not an exhaustive list of creative achievements of the group. Here also belongs the recording of three audio albums.
Current members of the quartet:
-
Volodymyr Futorskyi – first tenor
-
Volodymyr Gapii – second tenor
-
Yaroslav Yakymchuk – baritone
-
Andrii Zatonsky – bass
The art director of the group is the merited (performing) artist of Ukraine, senior lecturer of Ternopil National Pedagogical University, Yevgen Gunko, a demanding mentor and arranger of vocal miniatures.
Further plans of the quartet “Accord” include enriching of the repertoire, recording of new albums, and thorough work upon rendition craftsmanship. There is no doubt that love to the song in combination with genuine performing sincerity will ensure successive creative achievements of this talented group.
